The STEM Program at Pine Grove Middle is divided into two cohorts, or groups of students, in each grade level: an advanced content cohort that is fixed throughout grades 6-8, and a flexible, all-inclusive, interest-based cohort that varies from grade level and student interest.
Students are chosen for the Advanced Cohort based on multiple criteria including Math and Science GMAS Proficiency Level scores of 3 or 4, gifted eligibility, teacher recommendation, and GPA. Students must also meet the minimum program requirements in order to maintain good standing in the Advanced STEM Cohort.
Students wishing to enter the Interest-Based Cohort will complete surveys in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. These surveys will determine placement in the Interest-Based Cohort. If more students apply than the maximum cohort size, then students will be chosen by a lottery.
