6th Grade Advanced Cohort
General Information

The Advanced Cohort begins in 6th grade and continues throughout 8th grade culminating in students earning two high school credits before leaving middle school.

 

Students are chosen for this program based on multiple criteria including Math and Science GMAS Proficiency Level scores of 3 or 4, gifted eligibility, teacher recommendation, and GPA. Students must also meet the minimum program requirements in order to maintain good standing in the Advanced STEM Cohort.

 

Advanced Cohort students cover curriculum faster and deeper; learn through active engagement and problem-based activities; utilize varied technology among the classes; participate in STEM competitions, clubs, and organizations; and learn time-management and collaboration skills.

 

Requirements:  maintain an 85 or above in all classes; GMAS Proficiency Level scores of 3 or 4 in math or science; and teacher recommendation for continuation.

 

6th Grade Focus: 

  • Accelerated Math (6th and 7th grade curriculum);

  • Advanced Earth Science;

  • Coding.

 

6th Grade Interest-Based Cohort
General Information

Students wishing to enter the Interest-Based Cohort will complete surveys in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. These surveys will determine placement in the Interest-Based Cohort. If more students apply than the maximum cohort size, then students will be chosen by a lottery.

Interest-Based Cohort students learn through active engagement and problem-based activities; utilize varied technology among the classes; participate in STEM competitions, clubs, and organizations; and learn time-management and collaboration skills.

6th Grade Focus: students with a strong interest in mathematics, coding, app creation, and technology will participate in STEM math and business technology classes.
